Follow Up with the School about Recommendations

If the evaluator has recommended special education services, you need to know whether or not the school agrees with that. Speak with the special education administrator or IEP coordinator and ask the question, making sure to log the conversation in your communication log. If the school will support the recommendation, that’s the time to make a request for a joint eligibility and initial IEP development meeting, sometimes known as a program meeting. A sample letter for requesting a joint-purpose meeting can be found in Appendix B.
